This weekend, Småkraft AS marked the official opening of Øygardselva power plant – an important milestone for the local community, the landowners, and small-scale hydropower in Norway.

Øygardselva power plant is one of the smallest power plants in the Småkraft portfolio, yet it delivers approximately 2.9 GWh of renewable energy annually. This corresponds to the electricity consumption of around 180 households, with steady and valuable production throughout the year – precisely when the power system needs it most.

The opening is particularly special because the power plant is located in a protected watercourse. The project has been carried out with great respect for nature, the landscape, and cultural heritage, serving as a prime example of how careful development can be combined with local value creation and renewable energy production.

“Small-scale hydropower is not just about energy, but about collaboration, long-term ownership, and creating value where the resources are located,” says Småkraft AS.

The company thanks landowners, contractors, professional environments, and authorities for their excellent cooperation and the successful completion of the project.

With the opening of Øygardselva power plant, the community receives a lasting contribution to both local development and the Norwegian energy system – despite the power plant’s modest size.
