The power plant is located near the entrance to the Modals Tunnel and utilizes a drop of 490 meters. The dam facility consists of Hodnefjellsvatnet and two smaller dams with transfer pipes to Hodnefjellsvatnet. From Hodnefjellsvatnet, the Setsteinelvi river runs through steep sides towards Eksingdalen. Both this river and Skredbekken are tributaries to Ekso, which is the main watercourse in the Eksingedals watershed. Hodnefjellsvatnet can be regulated by two meters, contributing to better and more consistent production. The power plant is located in the mid-fjord region, known for relatively high annual precipitation of approximately 2850 mm/year.
Ekso is a highly prioritized fishing river, and there has been close dialogue with the county governor to consider the fish during the construction period. Communication has also been established with the liming facility in Ekso to adjust the liming of the river according to the power plant’s production. The completed pipeline from the intake to the power plant is approximately 1200 meters long. The pipe has a diameter of 600 mm, and the water is led through a buried pipeline of about 200 meters before entering a 900 meter long shaft. The last 100 meters of the pipe are buried up to the power station. The power station is equipped with a Pelton turbine with an output of 3.8 MW, and has an annual production of 12.6 GWh in a normal year.
