The story

Hommsåne is located in Homme, Valle municipality. The water rights belong to landowners of 3 properties. One of the landowners participated in the construction of Bjørgum hydropower plant for Småkraft in 2004 and contacted Småkraft regarding a collaboration for development in their own river as well. In 2017, a contract was signed with Småkraft, which undertook the risk, the work with the concession process, and the construction itself. NVE granted the concession in 2010. In the summer of 2014, the excavators arrived, and by the spring of 2016, the power plant was ready to deliver its contribution in the form of new renewable energy and local business income. Neatly integrated into the terrain above the farmstead in Homme, Hommsåne hydropower plant is now located.

The project

The implementation of the project has faced challenges along the way. The steep terrain in parts of the penstock route, in particular, has been a challenge. In addition, there were a couple of major floods in the watercourse during the construction period, which had to be managed and which delayed construction activities somewhat. Despite the aforementioned challenges, the project has been completed without major damage to personnel, machinery, or installations. There has also been good dialogue with NVE during the project phase. The collaboration with the landowners has been excellent. Their contribution in the form of local knowledge and presence during both the application and construction phases has contributed to successful project implementation.
