The power plant will utilize a drop of 145 meters between kote 200 and 55 in Vassbakkdalen. The development area is located in the village of Steinsvik, in the south of Volda municipality, which is in the south of Møre og Romsdal. The river flows relatively steeply, but without waterfalls. It flows in a northerly direction and further out into Fremstevannet and Vassbakkevannet before flowing out into the Dalsfjord.
The pipeline is planned on the west side of the valley and buried for its entire 730-meter length. The station house will stand next to the riverbank on the west side of the river and the foundation will be in concrete. The exterior will be clad in wood, painted in natural colors and with a turf roof.
